My first weekend with YAB In Birmingham.
My first weekend in Birmingham was amazing, such a great experience. So here I am telling you how my first YAB weekend went. The journey started on Friday at 12.15 when I was setting off from Plymouth bus station on coach to Birmingham with my sister, we was on the bus for around 5 and half hours, but we did stop a Taunton then Bristol then final stop BIRMINGHAM! I slept most of journey but did manage to see Bristol while driving through to the coach station to pick drop and pick people also for toilet breaks. Then we set off to Birmingham finally we arrived there around about 6.15, I met a woman called Krishna who is one of NDCS staff. We walked through town to get the hotel we were staying at. While walking through the town we managed to see the bullring! The popular tourist attraction in Birmingham. Me and my sister went out to get something to eat we ended up in Mc Donald’s, it weren’t packed as it is normally down in Plymouth the place was peaceful while I was eating my double cheese burger and chips! After we ate our dinner we thought we go for a walk around town for bit before we head back to the hotel. The time went by we have to get back to the hotel and get ready for bed.
Next morning we got up around 7 to get ready then headed downstairs for our breakfast, there was so many people downstairs signing and I was nervous thinking I’m the only one speaks there but I’m not the only one! Then we finished our lovely fry up in the hotel. My sister and I went back upstairs to get my scrapbook about myself and my life, my sister stayed in the room and I headed back downstairs and met new people down there, I met a NDCS staff called Isabel, then 3 girls called Amy, Kathryn, Zanna also 3 boys called Sam and Ash also Ammaar.. We all walked to the Studio together to meet other people there, we met Renee, Twm, Liam and another Sam, but one person was away on the residential. Anyway we played a game where we get to know each other and make each other sign name that everyone agreed. I already had my sign name which signed as a phone…people think it’s because I’m always on my phone…nope its because of my name initial is BT which is commonly stands for British Telephone landline.
Through out the day I did group work with Sam, Kathryn, Ammaar we did tackling the problems together by trying to make a tallest tower with dry spaghetti and marshmallow also we had to come up with our favourite famous person, my group came up with Mr Beans and the lady from NDCS audiologist called Vikki came in to talk to us about Cochlear implant and different devices we use to help out to hear and how its works, also showed us the smallest bone in the body which is in the ear and its called staples. Also I found out how big the cochlear actually is… its size of baby finger nail! I was so shocked about that!!! As day goes by I made a lot of friends and we have professional photo done as a group and age group 11-15 and 16-18!. At the end of evening everyone was friend together! We all headed off to bowling! Its was amazing time at bowling with new people I never met get to know each other more and get along really well! Unfortunately I didn’t win bowling I was rubbish! Boohoo! Oh well I did enjoy myself. Roll on to bed time that evening, I had to pack my stuff instead of doing it in the morning after I packed my thing I got into bed and nice and warm and snooze off!
Sunday morning! My bed vibrated, telling me to get my bum out of bed to get ready and eat breakfast, I was still half asleep…then we had to get our stuff then headed down to the studio for more job to do! Oh no! We did group work by trying to come up with 6 different item that you would have on the island if you got trapped there. Another work was to talk to each other and trying to agree on what we would like to change that we have problems with. Then end of the day we met our boss Tryon Wolf through Skype!
I did enjoy myself over the weekend and meeting new people there and I cant wait to go to Glasgow for our next residential which would be happening in September!
